10 Book-Tok Books. Are They Worth The Hype?

As a member of the Book-Tok community, I have read a ton of books that have been recommended to me on Tik-Tok. Some I really enjoyed and some I did not. I’m here to share what I thought about each book. I’ve read all 10 of these books and a few I couldn’t finish till the end of the book… it was so bad. Scroll through and see what books were worth the hype!

This book is your typical love story. The main character who is a skater starts off hating the star hockey placer. Both characters have to share an ice time so they get closer to each other and eventually catch feelings for each other. This book was very predictable and had a very average plot. There was nothing special to this book and I ended it feeling very bored.

Icebreaker-Hannah Grace

I love this series, it’s book one out of 10! Lilly is a sex addict and Loren is an alcoholic, and they are hiding their addictions from their families, friends, and the world. Best friends since childhood, they are now in a fake relationship so they can both hide their addictions and continue to fool everyone into thinking they are normal college students. This book is absolutely addictive. I read it all in one night and could not put it down.

Addicted To You-Krista and Becca Ritchie

I was really excited to read this one because I had seen this book everywhere! This book is about a group of friends that are staying at one of the characters summer cabin. The main character and her fiance had been broken up for months and reunite at the annual summer cabin without the other friends knowing they have been broken up. They tip toe around each other yet still act like they are dating in front of their friends. The book mainly was about the group of friends hanging around the cabin…I did not find there was a huge plot to this story. I forced myself to read half way through this book. I did not find anything exciting happen and was very bored so I quit reading!

Happy Place-Emily Henry

The story follows Fallon and Ben, who unexpectedly strike up a relationship by meeting once a year – on (you guessed it) November 9. One day Fallon becomes unsure of Ben’s intentions and a big plot twist ensues. This is a new adult romance. The book left me in tears. I found it to be a feel good book and I loved the impact it showed me of physical and emotional scars. This is still one of my favourite books to this day.

Nov 9-Colleen Hoover

I was expecting this book to be amazing. This was another book I was expecting to be amazing. I saw this one all over Book-Tok and was very disappointed with it. It starts off with a random connection sends two strangers on a daylong adventure where they make a promise one keeps and the other breaks. They meet up again years later and picked up where they left. I found it to be a very slow book. I didn’t find anything very special about the book. I pass on this one!

Meet Me At The Lake-Carley Fortune

I was hesitant to read this book because its by Hannah Grace, the same author as Icebreaker which I did not like. This book was amazing! It started off as the main characters meeting at a party and then meeting a few weeks later when they both start working at a summer camp for kids. I did not find this to be a regular love story, there were different parts that were out of the norm which I loved. It’s a very spicy book yet still has parts that demonstrate genuine true love.

Wildfire-Hannah Grace

I’ve read the first book by the author Lana Ferguson, “The Nanny” and loved it! This is the second book written by her. I admire the author creating a different book with untraditional characters and world but this one was too odd for me. This book was about characters who could shift into wolves. The two wolf shifters agree to be fake mates but unexpectedly find something real. I also didn’t like how it was the traditional book when two people pretend to date and then end up in love. If you like fantasy books this one is for you but if not, pass it!

The Fake Mate-Lana Ferguson

This is SUCH an amazing book! The story follows the life of Autumn and Phineas “Finny,” childhood best friends who used to be inseparable but who grew apart. The book revolves around what Autumn truly felt growing up about school, her family, and, most importantly, Finny. The author Laura Nowlin, did an outstanding job when describing Autumn’s feelings and how she truly felt about things. It almost makes you feel like you’re in Autumn’s shoes and can feel everything she does. This was another book I read all at once because I could not put it down. The only reason why it’s not totally worth it is because this book left me in a huge pile of tears. I actually felt nervous to read another book after this one because it shattered my heart. I refused to read the second book to this series because I couldn’t put myself through it again. Get ready for a good cry if you decide to read this!

If He Had Been With Me

Mia Sheridan does an amazing job about writing a love story about a girl who just moved to a town all alone and falls in love with a deaf man whom is known as the town freak. While there is a lot of spice, there are also non-sexual intimate moments as well. This is described as a love story on the cover, but I feel like this book is so much more than that. For that reason, I would recommend this book to everyone.

Archers Voice-Mia Sheridan

Sadly, I have never read a book by Tessa Bailey that I have enjoyed. I feel like all of her books I have read have been very slow and are your typical love story. Fox Thornton has a reputation as a sexy, carefree flirt. Everyone knows he’s a guaranteed good time and that’s exactly how he prefers it. Until he meets Hannah Bellinger. She’s immune to his charm and looks, but she seems to enjoy his personality and wants to be friends. This was another book I could not finish. I found it to be too predictable and boring.

Hook, Line And Sinker

Reading books can get very expensive. That is why I bought the newest Kindle-Kindle Paperwhite. It has a bigger screen than the previous Kindles. I was very hesitant about buying a Kindle because I love the feeling of holding and reading a physical copy of the book. I read my first book on the Kindle and my fears of not being able to enjoy it. It has features to feel like you’re holding an actual book like the realistic page turner. I also have a case that flips open so it feels like I’m holding a book. You can also add a pop socket at the back of the book for extra support. You’ll save hundreds of dollars reading books for free off of a Kindle rather buying each one. Check out the link below to purchase you’re own Kindle, you won’t regret it!
